G20 Summit - 2023 - New Delhi

Live updates from the 2023 G20 Summit: The African Union was welcomed as a new permanent member of the G20 on Saturday, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited AU Chairperson Azali Assoumani to assume the seat as a full member of the organization. After the financial crisis of 2008, the Group of 20 was established as a means of controlling the world economy. However, it has become more challenging recently to come to an agreement on some hot-button issues. The prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, tried to reach an agreement on divisive matters including the conflict in the Ukraine, climate change, and international governance while India's capital was fully armed and protected with many layers of security.

The leaders were warned by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is also present at the summit, that their disagreements ran the risk of igniting conflict and undermining public confidence. He emphasized that nations must take charge regardless of "whether it's the president or the prime minister or the vice president that comes" to New Delhi.
